That’s right–we’ve updated http://my.pogoplug.com to allow you to drag and drop entire folders to your cloud. The drag-and-drop folder upload feature is currently only available in Chrome. (Download Chrome for free if you don’t already use it.) You can also continue to upload folders via automatic backup using our free Pogoplug Companion software. That’s not the only update coming to our Web UI: We’ve also optimized the photo-viewing experience so photos display much faster, and there are lots of other bells and whistles under the hood.

As part of this release, we’re also updating Pogoplug Companion. Some of our users have requested a faster way to upload folders from the desktop, so Companion is now speedier than ever. For Cloud users, Companion will be replacing Pogoplug Drive as the primary way to quickly and reliably add folders to your Pogoplug account.

Once you have selected a folder for backup in Pogoplug Companion, the software will continuously monitor the folder for any new files or changes to existing files. These will be automatically backed up to your Pogoplug Cloud. At any point you can hit the “Stop” button and the folder will no longer be actively backed up.

Enabling Automatic Upload

Turning on automatic backups is easy–in both Android and iOS, we prompt you to enable Automatic Upload as soon as you install:

You can change your Automatic Upload settings at any time via ‘Settings’ off the main menu.

Default Destination

If you want to change the destination of your automatic backups—for instance, to a Pogoplug device instead of your cloud—you can select a new default in “Default Destination.” You can also create a new destination folder.

Viewing Upload Progress

From the Automatic Upload screen, you can view the upload progress of your camera roll by tapping the “i”  button below the progress bar. You will be able to see which file is currently uploading and its progress. (For Android, you can see auto-upload progress by swiping down the top area of the phone.)

When photos haven’t finished uploading, you can see how many remain in the red dot on the app.

Wi-Fi vs. Wi-Fi and Cellular

You also have the option of selecting when your photos and videos will automatically upload, over Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi and Cellular (3G). The main differences between the two are that the Wi-Fi-only option will only automatically back up when you’re near a Wi-Fi hotspot. Wi-Fi and Cellular uploads wherever you get 3G or 4G mobile service.

Upload Originals

Pogoplug’s mobile apps allow you to upload full-resolution original copies of the photos in your camera roll. You can also select whether these originals are uploaded on Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi and Cellular. The default is Upload Originals On/Wi-Fi.

With Android, if you go to Settings -> Upload Originals, there are 3 radio buttons – Never, WiFi Only, and WiFi and 3G.

However, Pogoplug Companion is also the fastest, easiest way to add folders to your account. All you have to do is enable Pogoplug Drive, a feature of Companion that lets you manage all the files and folders in your Pogoplug account directly from your desktop.

How does it work?

Pogoplug Drive mounts all your Pogoplug devices, user folders and your cloud on your desktop. To enable Pogoplug Drive, open Companion, go to Preferences -> Pogoplug Drive and select ON.

You will see your drives displayed as icons on your desktop.

To add folders to your Pogoplug account with Pogoplug Drive, select a folder and drag it to your cloud, device, or a Family or Team folder. (In the example below, we’ve selected Pogoplug Cloud.)

Click and drag with Pogoplug Drive—it really is that simple!
