New features coming to your Pogoplug, tonight!

Today we are happy to add some great new features to Pogoplug!

With game console support, Pogoplug owners can now easily access, share, and stream their media directly to their Xbox 360 or PS3 from any local or remotely located Pogoplug. Gamers can watch home movies from their Pogoplug connected external hard drive on their Xbox 360 or PS3, share slideshows or listen to their entire music library without ever putting down their game controller. The Xbox 360 or PS3 automatically sees the drives connected to the Pogoplug and the contents of other shared Pogoplugs.

Active Copy enables users to backup folders on their computer to a Pogoplug connected drive. Whenever new files are added, or changes are made to an existing file within the Active Copy enabled folder, these files are automatically copied to a chosen destination folder. Now users can also use Active Copy to automatically backup key files from one Pogoplug to another off-site Pogoplug, for additional safety and redundancy.

Both features came from user requests and both update to all Pogoplugs worldwide via an automatic firmware upgrade beginning tonight.

Awesome! Any word on when the sharing one file instead of the whole folders (like via facebook) will make it in?

  2. Edgar Valles says:

Awesome cant wait for tonight when my firmware gets updated .. anyway to force an update?

  3. jed says:

Single file sharing is in this build. You’ll see it as soon as the new site is up (later tonight).

There’s no way to force a firmware upgrade, but it will happen automatically. We’re doing a rolling firmware upgrade starting in a few hours and continuing until all Pogoplugs have been upgraded.

  4. Brendan says:

My Pogoplug seems to have stopped working tonight. Anything to do with the upgrade? Cannot reboot it, as it is several hundred miles away at the moment.

  5. Rob says:

Is there a way to check the pogoplug’s firmware version to see if my pogoplug has received the update. How will the media streaming be managed on the pogoplug? Will there be settings aviable for which folders i want to stream to the PS3?

  6. Chris Nixon says:

OK. I think I’m ready to buy one. Very excited.

  7. Jason says:

Is 2-way syncing still in the works? So if I make a change on the Pogoplug, it can be pushed to my local desktop as well?

  8. T. C. says:

I understand Active Copy is not synchronization. Any idea when synchronization will be ready?

I just tried out playing videos on my Pogoplug from my XBox 360. It found 240 files of various formats (MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, Xvid, and VOB) but my XBox only plays about 5 seconds.

I had a similar problem trying to share a video with a friend a few months ago… only 5 seconds of the video will play. No error messages are displayed. The quality is rather poor, too.
